A Whole Story from Whole Foods

Image

Whole Foods Market is my favorite organic grocery shopping store in NYC. I love how fresh vegetables and fruits there, and they also provide high quality dairy products, especially yogurt, it’s so yummy. Recently, I found their blog- Whole Story which is quite interesting to read.

Whole Story is the official blog of Whole Foods Market, it’s the world’s leading natural and organic grocer and they’re passionate about healthy food and a healthy planet. If you are a person have passionate doing incredible things related to organics, fair trade, green practice or anything food related stuff, you should follow the blog and join the conversation.

From the blog, we could see there are seven main call-to-actions for Whole Foods, including healthy eating, about our products, recipes, online ordering, mission & values, blog and store departments. All their posts are in a positive tone. Most of their blog posts are about sale event, contest announcement, food recommendation, recipes. I think it’s kind too commercial, for whose who are truly passionate about healthy, organic, green food, they may not find enough helpful information. After reading the blog, I found they post blogs quite often, average around 4-5 blogs each week. Maybe it’s too much, however, their contents have a great variety so I don’t think they are too noisy.

Personally, my favorite part of this blog is the recipes. It provides all the details, simply to read and easily to make. You just need one click then it automatically link to the recipes you are interested. It also provides author’s notes to tell you which part you need to pay special attention while cooking.

My Email Inbox Insights

The first thing I wake up in the morning is checking my emails. I have two email accounts, ons is for school and career development events which always provide the immediate, important and useful information; the other is mostly full of promotional emails including a lot of trash emails. However, I have to clean the promotional emails at least once a week otherwise there would be thousands emails which is really annoying.

Primary Email AccountImage Most emails are about NYU school events, activities, announcement career development events. Professors always post announcement and assignments or any information via this email account. It also provides an great opportunity for me to communicate with classmates, especially when having a group project going on. I’ve downloaded Gmail app on my iPhone so that I can check emails whenever I want. It sends out email notifications every time I get the emails which is really convenient. For example, NYC had several blizzard last month and NYU sent announcement about closing or opening the school. This app helps me know the news at the very first time.

Promotional Email Account

Image

From the screenshot, you could see those promotional emails including skincare products, fashion, jewelry, accessories, travel deal, conformation, notification etc. Once you subscribe, they keep sending you emails.

Priceline send me a lot of emails recently since spring break is around the corner. They send out flight sale, hotel sale, rental sale cruise sale anything related to traveling. However, they usually put on the lowest price in the email, when you actually click and see the details, the price would change and usually higher than the price in the promotional emails. They try to use low price flight, hotel, cruise to catch people’s eyes and attention. Most of time, I only read the title and delete them unless I have plans to travel.

Another emails are mostly about fashion promotion, they usually provide xx% off, online sales only, family and friend event, free shipping and free return those events to attract customers’ attention. Compare with travel deals, I would choose some brand to open emails and reading for details. Personally I prefer to buy things in physical store, especially shoes, you can try them in the store to see if it’s comfortable or not. What’s more, if I buy online, I would receive order conformation and order update emails. Those emails make me easier to check my order status and let me know the exact time that I can get the package.

Paris Fashion Week Fall 2014: When Chanel meets Grocery Store

Chanel_Shopping_Center

Can you imagine in this year’s Paris Fashion Week, the Chanel runway become a grocery store?

Karl Lagerfeld and his team turned the Grand Palais into an enormous, lavishly stocked Chanel hypermarket. The aisles were backed with tins of Chanel-branded tea, coffee and ‘Coco’ (hoho!). Posters pitched a special on coconuts, and the enormous caisse – complete with checkout desks – was spread under a drawn sign of Madame Chanel pushing a shopping trolley.

The supermarket theme indeed worked, especially alongside glitzy, sweat-pants-inspired outfits worn underneath striped coats, and tweed suits with a street-feel worn over bold leggings. The models seemed as though they had been driven down Mulholland Drive to pick up some lunch while wearing yoga gear and a deluxe coat.

Chanel’s silhouettes—which included short jackets, slim waists, and flared skirts—were mannish, with exaggerated baggy suits, ballooning trousers that drew in at the ankles, and sporty trousers in a cozy-looking tweed. There were also Juicy Couture-style tracksuits in a spectrum of pinks, as well as in-your-face silver leggings. The collection also included an array of tweed suits, sophisticated black coats, and sexy black dresses adorned with fine craftsmanship around the waist and zipper.

Once they could get us all to sit down and stop taking selfies – I nearly lost an ear to a bouclé-clad mademoiselle wielding a gold-bladed Chanel chainsaw – the show began.

In between classic schlock rock, a tannoy announcer breathed the deals of the day as models browsed the aisles in slim fit track pants, trainers – some of which were mid-calf-high – crop tops and trashy-fabulous oversized bouclé overcoats. The colors were loud and their hair braided and tangled like a pile of unwanted receipts. As the show progressed, the models began to stray from their routes, pausing here to contemplate the cotton wool – that eye-make up was pretty heavy – or peruse a pair of gardening gloves.

Stella Tennant carried a Chanel shopping basket in house chain-link. A fellow browser pulled a black leather Chanel quilted shopping trolley with double-C wheels. Cara Delevingne idly picked up a feather duster, then browsed on, a chain at her navel. One girl pushed a trolley with a Chanel bag that had been vacuum-wrapped with a ‘100 per cent lamb’ sticker attached to it hanging from the crook of her arm.

It was a marvellous mise-en-scene. The clothes, especially the shoes, were made with all the craftsmanship and luxuriousness that Chanel represents – but came cut for a world in which women (and men too, natch) are as likely spend as much time in supermarkets as benefit galas. The colours were as garish as the look-at-me labels on Chanel’s own brand tins, jars and pasta packets.

It is years since Moschino first plastered his clothes with product-packaging motifs – and Anya Hindmarch did it in London only a month ago. At this Chanel show, those quilted shoppers apart, Lagerfeld did not need to make his clothes badges of consumerism – they are that well enough already. Instead he framed his clothes in the consumerist culture of which Chanel is an apex brand.

And then came the (unwitting) looting. That announcer told the models the store was closing, so they skedaddled backstage. As the audience rose, some rushed to the shelves – with the doormats proving particularly popular. I tried to see if the ear-slasher got her chainsaw, but she was lost in a tweedy tangle of reaching hands. As that PR had suggested I go for it, I picked up a high-visibility gilet to wear in my allotment – so chic! – and a Chanel coffee tin for the kitchen. Alas, it turned out that only the fruit and vegetables were on offer. We put down our booty, picked up an ‘Aristocrate’ Chanel tangerine, and chewed it over.

Yelp makes my life better!

Image

Yelp is always my best friend especially when I travel to someplace new. Actually, my friend recommended me this app when we were traveling to Boston then I started using Yelp and I fell in love with it. Now, I almost use Yelp everyday. It could not only find the delicious tasty food, but also exhibitions, museums, sightseeing, shopping malls anything you just need to name it.

Yelp tracks your location by using Google map, it helps you find anything nearby or in different cities all you need is to type in the name. There are so many categories available on Yelp, you just need click to see more details and I believe you could always find what you want.

Here is a great screen shot of restaurants nearby me, and also shows on the map.

Recently, New York city is holding the restaurant week and my friend invited me to a Michelin 3 star restaurant- Jean Georges for lunch last week. This was my first time eating at a Michelin restaurant and I didn’t know anything about Jean Georges.

So I decided to yelp Jean Georges.

The first thing I need to know is the address and location of the restaurant, the good thing is that they provide map and you can even open the address in Google map which helps you find the place easier.

Yelper always like to post photos about what they have eaten when they go there and so that you could take a look at and know what’s the most popular food. The other thing I like Yelp is the review highlights and recommendation reviews, those show people’s restaurant experience and also allow you get the idea of eating in Jean Georges so that you won’t embarrass yourself when you go there for the first time.

I had a great lunch last Sunday and  I really like the food they made. Food were so delicious and with reasonable price. During New York Restaurant Week, Jean Georges provides the tasting menu and I recommend you choose the set: appetizer, entree and dessert, three only for $32. If you are interested, definitely go and try it. Overall, if I have a chance I will definitely go second time because they are doing so great with the tasting menu and I believe Michelin menu would be better.
